What was my role as a Township Trustee? Throughout my township service, I have recognized and appreciated the positive attributes of local government. Responding to the needs of our community is the primary responsibility within the major categories of Township government. The major categories of Libertyville Township are providing general assistance for the indigent, assessing property for the basis of local taxation, maintaining township roads and preserving open space property for conservation and recreational usage.
Libertyville Township is one of the unique townships which is responsible for open space properties. Our beautiful landscapes are not only offered for recreational use, but are preserved and maintained for generations to come. For example Libertyville Township owns over 700 acres in the Liberty Prairie Reserve. Preserving this land is one of the responsibilities the Township provides. I was involved in a major decision to transform many acres of our rental farm land property into a conservation of wild prairie. Some plants in this prairie are rare and endangered. Future generations to come will appreciate this beautiful natural setting .
How has Sunrise Rotary changed my view on service? Joining the Sunrise Rotary was one of my most joyful service commitments I have encountered. I not only have had the experiences to help coordinate two large fundraising events, but I have participated in smaller service commitments such as: Salvation Army Bell Ringer (what fun that was) cleaning a major highway, handing out poppies for non-profit organization, assisting running a large Help Your Starving Children event, community events, as well as learning about the many opportunities and meeting people who serve people in need in countless ways. The rotary continues to open my eyes on how individuals can just give our neighbors both close and far a helping hand. Also, on a side note -- I have met such genuine and kind people who are the members of this organization. I am proud to be included on such a team of "givers."
